Marie Thibeault received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, her MA from San Francisco State University and her MFA from the University of California at Berkley, where she studied with notable Bay Area figurative painters Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown.

Thibeault's work attempts to reconcile the tension between instability and balance, breakdown and recovery, with the use of architectural structures within organic conditions. She aims to engage the sublime, as a response to events that surpass our understanding and imagination due to the unbounded, excessive, or chaotic.

Since 2008, Marie Thibeault has been a regular recipient of the Scholarly and Creative Activities Grant from California State University and in 2013 she also received the Beverly G. Alpay Award from the Palos Verdes Art Center, California.
